Nichols & Wood - Solving & Building Together!

At Nichols & Wood, we love working with Oregon and Pacific Northwest communities! We’re small. We’re local. We care. With decades of experience and extensive networks, we help tackle development and conservation challenges together to envision and build solutions that work.

Who We Are

We aren’t consultants who just hand you a report. We become part of your team as planners, community developers, land use and real estate specialists, facilitators, negotiators, lobbyists, and problem solvers!

Darren Nichols JD, MURP

Darren is a driven leader and strategic problem solver in collaborative governance, land use planning, and community development. He has led multi-jurisdictional agencies and managed multi-million-dollar budgets to solve complex challenges across the Pacific NW and beyond.

His work spans public policy facilitation, construction and project management, infrastructure, climate resilience, and tribal relations. Darren began his career in construction contracting and he maintains a hands-on, problem solving approach. He is the former executive director of the Great Lakes Commission and Columbia River Gorge Commission, public policy faculty, community development director, and statewide manager of Oregon’s land use program.

Mona (Wood) Nichols

Mona provides strategic business management support for the firm and its ventures. She draws from her background in real estate development and management, and teaching. Mona and Darren have been partners in life and business for more than 25 years.
